EDUCATION AND SPORTS
Progress Overview
Kazo District has made significant strides in improving education delivery and accessibility, thanks to government initiatives such as Universal Primary Education (UPE) launched in 1997 and Universal Secondary Education (USE), introduced in 2007.
- Literacy Rate: Improved from 43% to 75%.
- Higher Education: Many UPE beneficiaries have successfully graduated from universities and tertiary institutions.
- Access to Primary Education:
- Out of 46 parishes, 39 (84.7%) have government primary schools (63 schools in total).
- The remaining 7 parishes are in the process of acquiring coded schools.
- Access to Secondary Education:
- Kazo has 6 government secondary schools out of 8 traditional sub-counties (75% coverage).
- Plans are underway to construct new schools in Nkungu S/C, Kazo S/C, and Burunga S.S. (a presidential pledge) during the 2021–2026 term.
