Kazo District Concludes School Sensitisation Outreaches in Commemoration of World Veterinary Week
As part of the World Veterinary Week celebrations, Kazo District has successfully concluded its school-based sensitization outreaches aimed at raising awareness about zoonotic diseases. The activities were wrapped up today, 25/4/2025 at Kazo Secondary School, following earlier sessions held at Buremba Secondary School and St. Catherine Girls Secondary School.
The outreach was a joint effort by the district's veterinary, education, and health departments, designed to educate students about the transmission and prevention of zoonotic diseases.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Alfred Nabimanya, the veterinary officer, emphasized the importance of disease prevention. He urged students to act as ambassadors of health by sharing the knowledge with their families. “You must drink properly boiled milk and eat well-cooked meat. If you don’t, you will fall sick,” Dr. Nabimanya warned, highlighting diseases such as brucellosis, rabies and anthrax.
Fokushaba Scovia, the district health educator, stressed the serious impact of animal-borne diseases on human health, noting that treatment for such illnesses can be expensive.
Namanya Mackline, Senior Inspector of Schools, encouraged students to take personal responsibility and share what they’ve learned. “Education begins with you. Take this message to your homes and help protect your communities,” she urged.
With students soon heading into their holidays, they now carry vital knowledge that could safeguard their families and communities from zoonotic threats.
Kazo District proudly joins the global community in celebrating World Veterinary Day, acknowledging the vital role veterinarians and related professionals play in protecting both animal and human health.
