Kazo District Marks Easter with a Message of Hope, Unity and Agricultural Transformation
Kazo District— This year’s Easter celebrations were marked by a renewed sense of hope, unity, and determination as religious and political leaders came together to urge the people of Kazo to embrace repentance, love and collaboration in the fight against poverty.
From bustling town centers to the quiet villages, Christians rejoiced in the freedom and peace that allowed them to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
At the heart of the celebrations, Dr. Abel Kamukama delivered a stirring sermon at St. John Kazo Archdeaconry Church calling on believers to thank God for His continued protection and to reflect on their actions. “In these times, we must reflect on our actions and strive for love and unity,” Dr. Kamukama told the congregation, emphasizing peace and repentance as key values for a transformed society.
At St. Paul’s Kazo Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Deo Mugisha delivered a passionate message, warning against the dangers of idolizing material possessions. “Christ’s suffering was a profound sign of love for us. If He died for our sins, shouldn’t we glorify Him and not earthly things?” he asked. Fr. Mugisha also raised concerns about declining moral values, urging the faithful to uphold integrity and honor God through their daily lives.
Pastor John Mushabe of Kazo Worship Church, located in Kazo Town Council, added to the spiritual reflections, highlighting God’s enduring love for His people and encouraging gratitude among believers.
Beyond spiritual reflections, political leaders used this day to share developmental visions aimed at transforming the district. Hon. Dan Atwijukire Kimosho, Member of Parliament for Kazo constituency introduced President Museveni’s four-acre farming model speaking from Bugarihe in Rwemikoma Sub-county. “If you do this type of farming, that means we will have defeated poverty through commercial agriculture” he said, encouraging farmers to adopt diversified and strategic agricultural practices.
Hon. Jennifer Rwaburibate Muhesi, the District Woman MP, echoed calls for repentance and Christian values. She also rallied support for the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government program aimed at transitioning households from subsistence to commercial agriculture.
The message of accountability was reinforced by the LC5 Chairman Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, speaking at St. Johns Kazo Archdeaconry, urged citizens to stand up against corruption a vice he described as a major obstacle to development. He stressed the importance of reviving agriculture as a cornerstone of the district's future prosperity.
In alignment with themes of stewardship and sustainability, Hon. Dan Nahura Bwamunyoga, the District Speaker called on residents at Mbaba catholic parish in Kazo sub county to engage in environmental conservation through tree-planting initiatives, emphasizing that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.
This year’s Easter was enjoyed free from the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic and animal disease outbreaks like foot and mouth disease. The collective call for spiritual renewal, agricultural innovation, and environmental responsibility left a lasting impression on the community.
As the district moves forward, the spirit of Easter in Kazo stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and a collective commitment to a better future.
