Kazo District Unveils Shs27Bn Budget, Plans to Boost Roads, Water and Services
Kazo District Council today convened a session at the council hall at the district headquarters to deliberate on the progress of ongoing projects and outline future development plans for the district.
The district speaker, Hon. Dan Nahurira Bwamunyoga, welcomed the attendees and thanked council members and technical team for their continued cooperation. He emphasized the need to complete ongoing projects and ensure proper implementation of approved development programs.
During the meeting, the LC5 Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, expressed appreciation to those who participated in the recent elections and formally welcomed newly recruited technical staff. He commended the district’s technical team led by Chief Administrative Officer Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala for their dedication in key sectors such as health, education, production and others.
Rev.Katugunda highlighted several achievements and ongoing initiatives, including improvements in health services and the construction of a new council hall, which is currently progressing well. He also urged the council to consider passing a resolution to allocate land to the NRM party for the construction of party offices.
In addition, the LC5 Chairperson reaffirmed the district leadership’s commitment to expanding water services across various parts of Kazo district. He also announced plans to improve road infrastructure to enhance connectivity within the district.
A key issue raised during the meeting was the expiration of the District Service Commission, which is responsible for recruiting staff. District leaders stressed the urgent need to establish a new commission to strengthen human resource management in the district.
To address this, the LC5 Chairperson appointed five individuals to serve on the commission, subject to council verification. These include Norbert Turyahikayo, who has been reappointed as Chairperson, George Sabiti Basheija, Mrs. Naume Muhanguzi, Rev. Richard Arineitwe and Denis Kashundo whose appointment is still under verification by the council.
The council also discussed the district’s budget estimates for the 2026/2027 financial year, which total approximately Shs 27,146,518,000. The proposed budget prioritizes key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, water and energy in line with the district’s goal of achieving sustainable community development by 2040.
Members further reviewed the district’s revenue sources. Local revenue contributes 4.4%, discretionary government transfers 17.6%, while conditional government transfers make up the largest share at 75.8%. Other government transfers contribute 1.3% and external financing accounts for 0.9% of the total budget.
In conclusion, the council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development. Leaders pledged to continue improving essential services and infrastructure to enhance the livelihoods of residents across Kazo district.
