Kazo District Distributes Over Shs 115 Million to Women and Youth Under YLP and UWEP
Kazo District Local Government has successfully received and distributed funds under the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) during the 2024/2025 financial year.
A total of Shs 115,300,000 was disbursed to various women's groups across the district. Among the beneficiary groups are Bwagonga Women Bull Fattening, Ekyambu 1 Women Goat Rearing, Burunga Women Bull Fattening, Omukabare Women Bull Fattening and Kyitengyeto Women Bull Fattening among others and in total, 17 women's groups comprising 121 members benefited from the UWEP funds.
Additionally, Shs 31,564,422 was allocated to 25 youth (14 females and 11 males) from four sub-counties. Some of the supported youth groups include Byabasita Youth Goat Rearing, Buremba II Youth Goat Rearing, Kyampangara Group, and Kariba II Youth Bull Fattening, among others
According to Atuhaire Doreen, the YLP Focal Point Person and Principal Community Development Officer, the programs are designed as revolving funds aimed at improving the livelihoods of youth and women. She emphasized the importance of political support in ensuring proper recovery of the funds to maintain the sustainability of the program.
Muhwezi Polly, the District Community Development Officer, noted that both YLP and UWEP are joint initiatives by the government to uplift communities economically. “These funds have significantly improved the lives of many women and youth by enhancing their household incomes. However, defaulters may derail the progress of this impactful program,” He warned.
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Kazo District, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Uganda and President Yoweri Museveni for prioritizing women and youth empowerment. “In past governments, women and youth were marginalized. This government has taken deliberate steps to include them,” he remarked.
Hajji Mayanja urged all beneficiaries to use the funds wisely and ensure timely repayment to enable others to benefit. He reiterated that the success of the revolving fund depends on commitment and financial discipline.
Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, the LC5 Chairperson of Kazo District, also thanked the government for supporting these critical groups. He called on all beneficiaries to invest the money meaningfully and work towards economic self-reliance.
