Kazo district local government has commissioned a newly constructed medicine store at Kazo Health Centre IV, aimed at improving the storage and management of medicines and other medical supplies at the facility.

The store was constructed by Aswangah Construction Services Limited, which was contracted by the Ministry of Health, with funding from the Global Fund. The project, valued at more than Shs700 million, covers approximately 300 square meters and provides expanded storage capacity for medicines and medical supplies.

Speaking during the commissioning, Kazo District Health Officer Dr. Edgar Kansiime thanked the Kazo district local government leadership for its continued support towards the development of the health sector. He also appreciated the Ministry of health, through Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine, for supporting the district’s health infrastructure.

Twinamatsiko David of Aswangah Construction Services Limited said the project was funded by the Global Fund through the Ministry of Health and implemented at a cost of more than Shs700 million. He said the facility was designed to accommodate a large quantity of medicines and other health supplies.

District Engineer Eng. Coleb Ntwirenabo said although the Ministry of Health was responsible for the project, the district worked closely with the ministry to monitor its implementation. He confirmed that the construction had been completed to the required standards.

Kazo District Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, commended the government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Health, for investing in the district’s health infrastructure. He said the district was also working to strengthen Kazo Health Centre IV by recruiting and filling vacant positions.

Hajji Mayanja noted that the facility now has more doctors and other health workers, with further recruitment expected to strengthen service delivery.

The LC5 Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, said the new store addresses a long-standing challenge of inadequate medicine storage at Kazo Health Centre IV. He said the district is also constructing staff houses at the facility to improve accommodation for health workers.

Rev. Katugunda urged health workers to utilise the improved infrastructure by providing quality services to the community.

The Resident District Commissioner, Captain Yahaya Kakooza, said the government had invested more than Shs700 million in the project. Having monitored the construction during its implementation, he described the facility as one of the best medicine stores in the district.

Captain Kakooza urged the facility management and other stakeholders to properly maintain the store and ensure that government investments are protected. He also called on stakeholders to strengthen monitoring of government projects to ensure value for money.

Meanwhile, Kazo district local government also commissioned external works at Kyampangara Health Centre III, Nkungu Health Centre III and Kyengando Health Centre III as part of ongoing efforts to improve health infrastructure and service delivery across the district.

The commissioning of the projects marks another step in Kazo district’s efforts to strengthen health facilities and improve access to quality healthcare services for residents.
