Kazo CAO Urges Councillors to Uphold Public Trust and Deliver on Their Mandate
The Ministry of Local government has today commenced a three-day induction for lower local government councillors and their councils in the new Council hall at Kazo district headquarters.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Kazo district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, thanked the Ministry of local government for facilitating the induction.
Hajji Mayanja urged councillors to observe time, respect the will of the people they represent and avoid unnecessary conflicts within their councils. He encouraged them to prioritise their responsibilities and make decisions that serve the interests of their communities.
The CAO further called on councillors to respect one another, work as a team, manage their time effectively and apply the knowledge gained during the induction to promote development in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local government team leader and Senior Policy Analyst, Innocent Atwijukire, conveyed greetings from the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Ben Kumumanya, and thanked him, together with the Minister of Local government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, for supporting the activity.
Atwijukire said the Ministry would use the three-day induction to equip lower local government councillors with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their duties effectively and make informed decisions within their councils.
He explained that the induction was organised to help councillors understand their roles in serving the people they represent and planning for their communities.
He also urged councillors to work closely with technical officers, monitor government programmes within their jurisdictions and ensure that public resources are directed towards improving the lives of citizens.
